"Sunny" had complications from choking that led to an impaction and severe endotoxemia. He fought valiantly for several days, but was finally laid to rest at sunset on June 3rd, 2011. He was to be our cornerstone of our Phara Heritage breeding program and his loss is a big blow to the small genetic pool as well as to everyone who knew him. His huge heart took in all those he met and loved them unconditionally. You would never have known this gentle horse was a stallion!

My back went completely out 3 years ago and isn't getting any better. At this point it's unclear whether or not I'll ever be able to ride again. Three more of our house dogs are aged, and I know they won't be around that much longer. Especially our little Cocker Spaniel and my Boxer, Dazee. What does this have to do with anything?

I'm seriously considering a mini horse for my next house pet. I know they can be 'house trained' but I have no idea of how to begin doing that. And I'd like to know the challenges of it before making my final decision.

Any input is appreciated.

Shaker Foal??

This is posted from the email that my mom sent earlier...

Ruben’s grulla mustang mare, Dreamer, had a beautiful filly within the past 2 weeks. Yesterday, one of the other boarders noticed that her tongue was hanging out a lot. He also thought he detected a tremor in her left front leg, and that she was bumping into things. So I watched for a little while last night and indeed, the tongue is definitely flopping out of the left side of her mouth whenever she tries to nibble grass. So I went home and did some research.

#1…. it could be that she suffered a BEE STING. The berry farmer has hired a bee keeper to place beehives in his field to pollinate the blackberries. He chooses to do this as close to our paddocks as possible (not sure why he doesn’t put them in the middle which would be further from the horses!!)

#2… Shaker foal syndrome caused by botulism picked up in the soil as she learns to eat. I’ve also seen her licking the boards in her stall (and, of course, Ruben never cleaned it before he moved the mare in). I’ve left a note at the barn asking people to watch closely. If she shows muscle weakness or any other signs of distress, they need to get her to a veterinarian IMMEDIATELY to save her life. From what I read, she could die within 4-7 days if not treated……and treatment can be very expensive if she gets to the point where she cannot eat or breathe without IV and stomach tube. But if treated, chances of survival are very good.

#3….can you think of any other problems associated with a sudden onset of droopy tongue?

Uploading Photos to EquineEarth.com

To post photos, go to your "Dashboard" on the far left of the menu. Directly to the right of your avatar/profile photo there are two sets of "Quick Links". The first is "Submit Links" on the left and then "Manage Links" to the right and center of the page.

"Upload A Photo" is the fourth option down on the left hand quick links menu under "Submit Links". Once you click on the "Upload A Photo" you will have the option to select an existing photo album or create a new one. These are your personal albums and will then skip the photo category selection process. If you do not make or choose an album, then your photo will go into the general public photo section where you will be prompted to choose a category.

On the "Process Photo" page there is a "Title" field to name your photo, followed by a "Description" field to give more details about what was going on in the photo, then you can choose the "Category" that best fits your photo (you only see this if you DO NOT put the photo in a personal album). The main categories to choose from are Horses, Artistic Photos, Family & Friends, and Event Photos.

The next section you will come to when uploading any photo is the photo content warning labeled "Mature Content". In this section, please note if your photo is suitable for all viewers of all ages then you can leave the selection on the default "No". If your photo is suggestive or risque enough that you wouldn't want minors under the age of 12 to see it, then please select the middle option "Yes (warning)" and it will bring up a warning message before letting anyone view the photo. If your photo is highly suggestive or of material that would not be suitable for anyone under the age of 18, then please select the "Yes (strict)" option so that it will restrict all users under the age of 18 on the site from viewing the photo. ~~~Please note that these 'photo content ratings' does not mean that anything pornographic or extremely grotesque or highly offensive will be allowed on the site.

The next option to choose is "Discussion" where you have five options for your comment settings on the photos that you upload. The first option that is the default setting, is to allow comments. Next is 'encourage advanced critique' and 'discourage criticism' although we have not seen that these choices make a difference on the comments section. The last two options are 'moderate comments' meaning that comments will need to be approved by you first before they can be seen by all viewers, and the last choice is 'disable comments' that would not allow comments to be posted about your photo.

"Public Rating" follows the "Discussion" option and only has two choices. Select 'Yes' to allow viewers to rate your photo, or 'No' to not allow rating of your photo.

The "Tags" field allows you to put in information that would help your photo to be found in a search on the site or internet as a whole. My tags for example on this forum post would be 'SunStar, Admin, wiki, photos'.

The last field before saving your photos is "Download Enabled". It defaults to 'Yes' which allows viewers to download your photo, you can also choose 'No' which is my choice on all of my photos as they are meant to downloaded and shared to others. If you want to share with your friends, then 'Yes' would be appropriate for you.

Then hit the "Save" button and enjoy your photos
